Laser eye surgery - 2. Is Laser Eye Surgery for you?

Laser vision correction can treat a very high degree of short sightedness, long sightedness and astigmatism. Your eyes are as individual as you are and you will need to assess your suitability for laser vision correction in a consultation carried out by an experienced Laser Trained Optometrists who will perform an in depth eye examination.

1. Short Sight (Myopia)
If you need vision correction to see things clearly at a distance, you are short sighted. Without spectacles or contact lenses your vision is blurred.

2. Long Sight (Hyperopia)
If you need vision correction to read or see things close up, you are long sighted. Depending on your age you may have problems focusing on distant objects too.

3. Astigmatism
Astigmatism is most commonly where the cornea is oval like a rugby ball instead of spherical like a football. Most astigmatic corneas have two curves; a steeper curve and a flatter curve. This causes light to focus at more than one point in the eye resulting in blurred vision. Many long and short sighted people often have a degree of astigmatism.

4. Reading Spectacles (Presbyopia)
Presbyopia is not be confused with long-sightedness. Most people when reaching their 40s or 50s need reading spectacles. This is because the natural lens can no longer alter its focus from distance to near, even if they have never had to wear spectacles before.
